About A Better Life Therapy
Our Story
Elizabeth Earnshaw the Founder of A Better Life Therapy
When I opened A Better Life Therapy in 2013, I had one goal: to create a practice where people feel truly welcomed and supported. In my own search for a therapist, I was surprised by how difficult it was to even get a call or email returned. I wanted to change that.
At A Better Life, you’ll always hear back from us - whether you call, email, or schedule online. We believe finding a therapist should be simple, and you deserve to know that someone is here for you. (And yes, it’s true that I’ve been known to write prospective clients back at midnight just to make sure they could rest assured that there was an appointment available to them.)
I also wanted to create a space where I am confident the therapist you are working with is not only highly trained to support you but genuinely cares about what you’re going there and where you want to go.
Welcome to our practice. I hope to see you around!
Our Core Principles
ABL is built around four core principles:
A Place That Feels Like Home
The Power of a Group Practice
Commitment to Lifelong Learning
Ease of Access
An ABL Office in Galloway, NJ
A Place That Feels Like Home
When I founded A Better Life Therapy in 2013, I wanted to create a practice where people felt truly welcomed and cared for. In my own search for a therapist, I was shocked at how hard it was to even get an email or phone call returned, let alone schedule an appointment. That experience shaped my mission: to build a practice that is warm, responsive, and easy to connect with.
Our offices are designed to feel like living rooms rather than medical offices. They are comfortable, safe spaces where you can kick off your shoes if you’d like and talk openly about what’s going on in your life. From your very first call or online request, our team makes sure you’re met with kindness, responsiveness, and support. We want you to feel like you are welcome here at any point in your journey.
2. The Power of a Group Practice
At A Better Life, we believe that therapy is stronger when it’s collaborative. As a local group practice, our therapists don’t work in isolation. They share knowledge, consult with one another, and receive ongoing supervision so you benefit from the collective expertise of the whole team.
Being a group practice also means:
Specialized support in one place – You can see a couples therapist to strengthen your marriage while also working with a colleague who specializes in trauma recovery through EMDR and both of those therapists can collaborate on your care.
Care across the lifespan – We’ve had the honor of supporting clients through many stages of life: young adulthood, new parenthood, career transitions, grief and loss, and even end-of-life. People often come in and out of our offices as they meet new challenges in their lives and we are so in awe of the opportunity we have to watch them tackle and live their lives.
Stability and community roots – Unlike the trend towards most practices being acquired by venture capital, our team is local, invested, and connected. Even as we’ve grown to six offices across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, every location has been built around our core clinicians. When team members moved, we expanded with them so they could continue serving their communities and stay with our practice rather than them having to find a new job elsewhere. We believe that this helps us to be invested in our work in a very special way.
3. Commitment to Lifelong Learning
The best therapists never stop growing. At A Better Life Therapy, we place a strong emphasis on continuing education and professional development. Our team regularly participates in:
Weekly group supervisions where we focus on real cases and provide the best possible care.
In-house continuing education each year on topics ranging from adolescent trauma to substance use to emerging issues like AI in therapy.
Specialized trainings and certifications that keep our therapists at the forefront of the field.
This commitment ensures that every therapist on our team brings both compassion and the latest evidence-based practices to your care.
4. Ease of Access
Therapy should never feel out of reach. At A Better Life, we make getting started simple:
Multiple ways to connect – Schedule yourself online, call our office, or send an email. We’ll always get back to you quickly.
Flexible locations – With six offices across PA and NJ, you can choose the space that feels most convenient and comfortable to attend in person. In person doesn’t work for you? We offer telehealth too.
Affordable options – We offer a wide range of fees, from $20 to $300, to ensure that everyone has access to the support they need and many of our therapists have sliding scale slots available.
Our Promise
At A Better Life Therapy, our mission has always been the same: to create a place that feels like home, where therapy is collaborative, growth is constant, and access to care is easy. We’re honored to be part of your journey—not just in one season of life, but wherever life takes you. I invite you to take a look at our therapist team to see who might be the right fit for you! Meet our Leadership + Administrative Team
At A Better Life Therapy, every member of our leadership team began as a therapist within the practice. Their dedication to excellent clinical care, passion for team building, and commitment to creating warm, supportive environments naturally led them into leadership roles.
Elizabeth Earnshaw, LMFT, CGT — Founder & Practice Director
Elizabeth founded A Better Life Therapy in 2013 with the vision of creating a practice where clients feel truly at home and supported. As Practice Director, she guides the overall direction of the organization, develops educational programming, and identifies areas where training and growth are needed. Elizabeth supervises the leadership team, provides clinical supervision to emerging clinicians, and ensures that the practice remains rooted in compassion, collaboration, and clinical excellence. Her work keeps an eye on the “big picture,” making sure A Better Life continues to grow while staying true to its mission of offering warm and responsive care.
Ariel Stern, LPC, CGT — Clinical Director, Ardmore
Ariel has been with A Better Life since the very beginning. With deep clinical expertise and a talent for building community, Ariel spearheaded the opening of our Ardmore office and has been guiding the team there ever since.
Eman Almusawi, LMFT — Clinical Director, New Hope
Eman first worked in our Center City office before stepping into leadership. When the opportunity arose to expand into Bucks County, where she lives, Eman became the perfect fit to lead our New Hope office, bringing both clinical skill and a strong community connection.
Nora Nova, LPC — Clinical Director, Fishtown
Nora began as an intern during her Master’s program, later joining as a staff therapist in Center City. Her dedication and leadership led her to establish and direct our Fishtown office, where she continues to create a welcoming and supportive environment for clients and staff alike.
Kristelle Mallah, LMFT — Clinical Director, Easton
Kristelle started as a staff clinician in Center City, and when her family relocated during the pandemic, we knew we wanted to keep her as part of the team - even if she was far away. Her leadership and dedication made her the ideal person to open and direct our Lehigh Valley office in Easton.
Deirdre Cosgrove — Clinical Director, Galloway
Deirdre has been with A Better Life almost since the start, beginning part-time in one of our first Center City offices. When she returned to her hometown near the Jersey Shore, it was clear she was the right person to lead our first New Jersey office in Galloway.
Marta Cofone — Clinical Director, Center City
Marta joined us early on at the Ardmore office and quickly stood out for her clinical expertise and natural leadership. When the time came to appoint a new Clinical Director for our flagship Center City location, Marta was the clear choice.
Eunice Akinola — Director of Clinical Operations
Eunice first connected with us years ago through a “cold” email asking if we had administrative openings. She began as a part-time assistant and has grown into the role of Director of Clinical Operations, overseeing everything that makes ABL run smoothly. Along the way, she earned her Master’s degree and is now also a practicing therapist on our team.
Joe Scheller — Intake Coordinator
Joe is often the first person people meet at A Better Life. He helps new clients connect with the therapist who best fits their needs, drawing on his deep knowledge of the entire team. Known for his warmth, humor, and kindness, Joe makes every client feel like a valued individual from the very first interaction.
Meet our Senior Clinical Supervisor Team
Along with our Clinical Directors - Elizabeth, Ariel, Eman, Kristelle, Nora, Marta, and Deirdre - our Clinical Supervisor Team plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of therapists. These supervisors guide interns and pre-licensed Master’s level clinicians as they complete their “residency” toward full and independent licensure.
By offering mentorship, feedback, and clinical oversight, our supervisors ensure that every therapist-in-training receives the support and knowledge they need to provide excellent care for clients.
Jenny Midence-Balsczyzk, LPC — Senior Clinician and Clinical Supervisor
Jenny is a core member of our senior clinical team and sees clients in our Ardmore office. With extensive experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Jenny brings warmth, insight, and a deep commitment to her clinical work. She has specialized training in trauma and relational therapy, and her approach combines compassion with evidence-based practices. As a supervisor, Jenny is dedicated to helping emerging therapists grow their confidence and clinical skills while maintaining a focus on client care and wellbeing.
