Meet Eunice

Eunice Akinola, MFT

“Everyone deserves to feel a sense of belonging.”

Living in our fast-paced society, I know how easy it can be to lose touch with ourselves and others. As a relational therapist, I believe people hold an innate desire to connect and relate to others in an effort to feel a sense of belonging, and I understand how impactful it can be when these connections become strained. These strains can cause a ripple effect to our sense of self, leading to feelings of loneliness, intrusive thoughts, anxiety, and fatigue. I am drawn to work that supports individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan facing difficulties with addressing relationship challenges, grief & loss, depression, sexuality, life transitions, and trauma.

I understand the feelings of helplessness that can come with facing these stressors and aim to provide you with a gentle space when getting to know the story of who you are.

Change can occur at any stage of life. Through our work together, I hope to provide you with a sense of belonging by welcoming you with empathy, curiosity, and honesty as we work collaboratively to address and alleviate the challenges you have been facing.

Who I Work With:

Individual Therapy:

The ways that we process and interpret information can have a big impact on our mental health. This draws me towards decentralizing unhealthy thought patterns when working with individuals. I take a collaborative seat as we walk through the development of these thoughts and how they have contributed to areas of stress. Once identified, I utilize therapeutic tools to support the development of healthy and empowering beliefs.

Couples Therapy:

Relationships can go through many stages but thrive on mutual understanding and trust. When working with couples, I incorporate systemic and contextual therapy frameworks in sessions. This means that I take a directive approach in sessions to re-build mutual understanding and trust between you and your partner following a betrayal or life transition. This may involve supporting couples in re-attuning to the needs within their relationship and taking a collaborative approach when developing ways that the couple can meet these needs.

As a black cis woman and a first-generation American of a Nigerian immigrant, I recognize the complexities that identities can hold and the negative impacts of social biases. With this, I facilitate sessions through a social justice lens that is anti-racist, sex-positive, queer & gender-affirming, and polyamory/kink/BDSM-affirming.
