Therapy During a Pandemic
By: Elizabeth Earnshaw, LMFT, CGT
Since March, therapy has entered new territory. Most therapists across the country have moved to online only options due to requirement or encouragement from their state. This change has been welcomed by some and for others it has felt restrictive or impossible.
For those that enjoy the increase in online therapy options there might be relief in no longer having to pay for parking, rush to and from the workplace, or take a long train ride just to see your therapist. It might seem easier to hide away in your bedroom for an hour session instead of finding a babysitter or asking your boss for more than an hour away from work.
There are also many reasons to be uncomfortable with online therapy. For many the lack of a true face to face relationship changes something about the process of therapy. Maybe it feels too impersonal. Perhaps it is hard to read body language.
It also might strip away some or all of your confidentiality. For instance, it is hard to explore difficult feelings about a romantic partner or a roommate or even a child if they are sitting in the room right next to you. It might even be unsafe for you to do that.
At A Better Life, we understand that there is not one right answer for everyone. This is why we have worked diligently over the past several months to come up with a plan to create accessible therapy for you in whichever way you need it. This plan takes into consideration various needs for physical safety and also takes into consideration the reality of your situation.
For those that want online therapy...
All of our therapists are currently offering online therapy through a HIPAA compliant platform called Simple Practice. If you are interested in online therapy, you can schedule here or email info@abetterlifetherapy.com. Your therapist will send you a link for your online therapy appointment. All you have to do is click that link during your appointment time and you are in!
All of our therapists have been trained to make sure your online therapy experience is as confidential as possible.
For those that want in person therapy...
We offer face to face therapy in our Philadelphia and Main Line, Pennsylvania office. Both of these offices are cleaned and are taking precautions to keep you safe during your time with us. All of our in person therapists check their temperature daily before entering the workspace and are happy to wear a mask during your session. We also make it easy for you to enter without even having to touch a door!
The new Main Line office in Bala Cynwyd has parking spaces in case you prefer not to take public transportation.
The following therapists are currently offering in person sessions:
