There are many different types of depression:

➿Major Depression

➿Bipolar Depression

➿Premenstrual Dysphoria

➿Dysthymia aka Persistent Depression (Just to name a few).

Each type of depression is different, and each one has a spectrum of severity.

The common symptoms of each type of depression include:

〰

Depressed mood️ Loss of interest️ Difficulty concentrating️ Low energy and fatigue️ Insomnia or hypersomnia️ Possibility of suicidal thoughts. If you think you might be experiencing depression, know that you are not alone. According to the World Health Organization, 300 million people suffer from depression worldwide. A lot of times, people have the wrong idea about what depression looks like. This can make it challenging for the supportive people in a depressed person's life to even know what to look for. It can also feel isolating for people that don't seem "traditionally depressed". [See related: Supporting Someone with Depression]

Depression looks like:

Good grades, A smiling face, Laughing with friends, Quietly sitting alone, Laying on the couch all day, Struggling to get out of bed, Crying, Sleeping too much, Tossing and turning all night, Agitation, Acting out,

What depression feels like:

Sitting in darkness, Numbness, Sinking beneath the surface, Pressure on the chest, Exhaustion, Irritation, Lonely, Moments of happiness, Caring about nothing.

Depression is different for everyone. Not everyone outwardly shows signs of depression. Not everyone tries to hide their depression. No matter how it’s expressed, depression is real, and it is hard.
