The Person of The Therapist during the COVID-19 Crisis

An online workshop for therapists

Join Kristelle Mallah, LMFT and Elizabeth Earnshaw, LMFT as they support and hold space for therapists working with clients while facing and experiencing many of the same stressors and traumas.

Kristelle and Liz will explore The Person Of The Therapist model, which prepares therapists to make active and purposeful use of who they are, personally and professionally, in all aspects of their therapeutic work.

Holding space for therapists during the COVID-19 Crisis

This well-received workshop has now been tailored to support you, the therapist, during this time of uncertainty and stress. We are experiencing something unprecedented as therapists, a time when we must offer space and support to those we serve while also experiencing many of the same stressors, disappointments, and traumas as our clients.

The Beliefs Underlying this Workshop

This workshop is designed to support you in your humanness as a therapist. During this workshop, we will be focusing on these aspects of Harry Aponte’s Philosophy on The Person of The Therapist:

  • The relationship between the therapist and the client is the foundation for all therapeautic work. It must be authentic, committed, and trustworthy.

  • The therapist must recognize and contend with their own human vulnerabilities.

  • The therapist must be committed to contend with their own personal challenges with the intent to grow and change in order to relate to what it takes for the client to engage in their own daunting journey.

  • The therapist should be able to resonate in his or her humanity with the pain of the client.

  • The therapist must be prepared and willing to reach for resources for the client and the self.

In this workshop you will…

  • explore how utilizing person of the therapist techniques encourages joining and connection between therapist and client.

  • Work towards recognizing your own human vulnerabilities and understand how to utilize them in the therapeutic relationship to support your client.

  • Learn how to utilize your self awareness of the process between you and your client to foster growth in therapy.

  • Practice recognizing emotional experiences and physical experiences in the therapy room and walk away with tips on how to use grounding techniques to stay present.
