Family Therapy in Pennsylvania

Family is tough. It’s the truth. There are many reasons that families choose to engage in family therapy, but the underlying hope is always the same - for the family to be able to function together in a way that improves the way in which individuals feel and also the way in which the family connects. Family therapy is useful in family situations that create grief, anger, distress, tension, or confusion. But, it can also be useful when families are trying to prevent harm by discussing upcoming transitions together.

Each family is a unique system - with their own history, traumas, grief points, joy, culture, and personality. Our therapists aim to support you in developing the type of family system that you want. We do not approach it as a one-size fits all type of therapy - we believe that your family should be able to operate within all the beauty of their uniqueness and we would also like to help you address tension, dysfunction, and pain by offering our expertise around healthy communication and connection.

Reasons families pursue family therapy:

  • Navigating adult child/parent relationships

  • Helping family members support a family member struggling with mental or physical illness

  • Navigating behavior and emotional changes and challenges in children

  • Blended families

  • Difficulty communicating

  • Difficulty navigating changing roles and boundaries as children age

  • Grief due to a death in the family.

  • Grief and loss due to other losses like a job loss, physical loss, or a major move.

  • A major life transition that is challenging for the family unit

  • Divorce or separation

  • Due to impact of substance use or abuse on a family

  • and many other reasons!

Our practice is especially suited to support your family because of our special focus on relationships. Many of our therapists are trained in Marriage and Family Therapy. Marriage and Family Therapists receive a Master’s degree specifically focused on the healthy functioning of families and also work for over 3,000 hours with families before receiving a license!
